US-UK Conference on Climate Change in Urban Areas
Lord Julian Hunt, Academic Director of the LRN, recently represented the UK research community at a US-UK conference on Climate Change and Urban areas held at UCL. The aim of this conference was to bring together leaders of climate change research and policy in the USA and UK in order to present the latest developments on the implications of climate change for urban areas. Urban areas were the focus as these areas contribute so strongly to global warming as a result of greenhouse gases emitted by buildings, transportation and industry and because the populations of these areas are particularly vulnerable to climatic extremes and natural disasters, as witnessed around the world in recent times.
