Housed on the collaborative web “Lighthill Risk Network Platform”, our Expert Panels are the place to go online for high-calibre informed editorial on developing stories and the latest in thinking within key areas of interest to the (re)insurance community.
The Panels are essentially quality controlled ‘blogs’ authored by leading international experts in their fields. Written by experts (our ‘Risk Fellows’) for non-experts Expert Panels provide a conduit for Lighthill Risk Network members to by-pass journalistic interpretation and access information direct from those that do the research.
Building on the “Web 2.0” phenomena exemplified in sites such as Wikipedia and realclimate.org, the Panels encourage community participation - members can suggest topics to be covered, or contribute comment to articles – whilst maintaining the added value of quality control and expert opinion.
Crucial areas of relevance to (re)insurance that have been indentified include: Catastrophe modelling; Climate Change Implications; Risk Pricing; Mathematics for Insurance; Data; Bio-Risks; Geo-hazards and disaster reduction; Space Weather; and finally a specialist Panel on Tropical Windstorms.
Most Panels are partnerships with high-reputation organisations who run the sites on a day-to-day basis. Our partner organisations will include the Benfield Hazard Research Centre, UK Research Councils, the Met Office, and the actuaries’ Quantitative Finance Network.
