Dr Swenja Surminski - Association of British Insurers
Swenja is advising the ABI on climate change issues, including
mitigation and adaptation. Key areas of work are climate impacts
(incl. flooding, storms, heat waves and health issues), greenhouse
gas emissions, and carbon commerce. She has co-ordinated the
ABI's response to the 2007 summer floods in the UK and sits on
various research steering groups, guiding the knowledge
exchange between climate scientist and the insurance industry.
Swenja is also involved in several Governmental working groups
such as Defra's National Risk Assessment steering group and
Climate Change Commission for Wales Adaptation Sub Group.
Prior to taking up this role in April 2007, Swenja was working in the
Risk Management division of insurance broker Marsh McLennon and
in the Geoscience Team at Munich Reinsurance Company. Swenja
received a PhD in Economics/Political Science from Hamburg University for her work on 'Climate Change and the Insurance Industry' in 2000.

Graham White - Zurich UKGI
Graham is a member of the Zurich European and Group Global Property and European and Group Global Natural Catastrophe workgroups. His work includes developing Property underwriting and exposure management solutions for Climate Change.
He is also a member of the ABI Property Committee and currently has been working on ClimateWise and the recently renegotiated Statement of Principles between the ABI members and the Government. Graham is a Climate Change Commissioner for Hampshire County Council. He has previously held similar senior underwriting positions with other international insurers.

Tom Oxley - Norwich Union
Tom has been with the organisation for four years covering all aspects of CR in the UK. He joined after eight years in public relations, specialising in crisis management. He supports Norwich City.

Phil has over 27 years experience in forestry risk assessment and design for brokers, forest corporations, Lloyd's Syndicates and continental reinsurers.
Phil is an innovator in establishing forestry insurance schemes and a regular speaker on global platforms on aspects of forest risks and risk management. He has taken a leading figure in recognising and writing about the impacts of climate change on insurance and forest companies.

Trevor Maynard - Lloyd’s of London
Trevor is manager of emerging risks at Lloyd's of London. He was the main author of Lloyd's first paper on climate change “adapt or bust”, an editor of their third paper on “rapid climate change” and an author of Lloyd's report “Coastal Communities and Climate Change: Maintaining Future Insurability”.
He is Lloyd's representative on the finance group of the London Climate Change Partnership and one of the contributors to their report “Climate Change: Business as Usual” which culminated in a meeting between senior financial services leaders and the Mayor.
Trevor is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and chairs an actuarial working party on climate change. He also sits on their Environmental Research Group. Trevor sits on the Maths Strategic Advisory Team for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and also the Industry Advisory Board of the Industrial
Maths Knowledge Transfer Network. He is a visiting fellow at City university and LSE.
