The Lighthill Risk Network

David Simmons is the Research Director of the Lighthill Risk Network. He is a Mathematics graduate with 25 years industry experience, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a national property insurance prize winner and a vice-president and current council member of the London Insurance Institute. David began his career with a major UK insurance group, becoming a senior property underwriter before moving into financial analysis. He was the first mathematician employed by a London market reinsurance broker to build models of reinsurance risk.

David is now Head of the Risk Consultancy team of Benfield ReMetrics, part of the largest analytical group in the London insurance market. He is also a member of the executive running Benfield’s Asia/Pacific business.

David has a special interest in the application of statistical and mathematical methods to solve real business problems, including development of Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) models. David was instrumental in the creation of the Benfield Hazard Research Centre at University College London, and now sits on the management board of the Centre.
